The Mediterranean cuisine is considered an excellent choice for a healthy and nutritious diet. Mediterranean climate ingredients are extremely beneficial for your health. It is known that they reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, strengthen the immune system and contribute to obtaining a mentally and physically healthy body.

Dalmatian cuisine contains primarily fish and lean meat and it also includes a lot of fresh, locally produced vegetables, easily prepared with some seasoning. Pasta is a common ingredient in many dishes as well as a good glass of wine.

The intense flavour and traditional Dalmatian cuisine identity have been developing over centuries adding the best from different cultures which have occupied or passed through these lands. You can taste the richness of Illyrian tribes, Romans, Avars and Slavic tribes, Croats, Venetians, Ottomans, French and Italians in every meal that you taste. Each one of these cultures has contributed in some way to Dalmatian cuisine, but still the most important factor is the Dalmatian geographical position.

Fish is the most prominent ingredient in Dalmatian cuisine and the locals have found various ways for preparing it (grilled, stewed or boiled, marinated, etc.). Laurel and garlic are the most common condiments and olive oil is used in almost every meal. Shellfish and crustaceans are prepared in sauce in a special traditional Dalmatian way. Beef stew with gnocchi is well known as local Dalmatian specialty.
